Where is my mojo?

I have not been feeling creative lately.  I think it is because I am focusing so much on renewing my soul and attitude, that it has just left me nothing in the creative department.  Well that and lack of money for the things I really want to do (tackle some home improvement projects).  Or maybe it is just because I want to hibernate because it is so cold outside.  I am wanting to bake, but I don't know what.

Luckily my husband needs some goodies to take to work tomorrow.  So I will definitely get some baking in tonight.  I did make some cranberry/blueberry muffins last night.  Yesterday the blueberry craisins were on sale so I bought a bag and made muffins.  I have also pulled out the embroidery part of my sewing machine.  After having it for two years I have finally decided to try out some embroidery.  I guess that is getting creative.

I haven't taken any pictures since the musical a couple of weeks ago.  Again, that lost mojo.  I do blame this on the weather.  It is just to stinkin' cold to go outside.  I haven't even instagrammed that much and that is very unusual for me.

On a more positive front; I have become a lot more calm person (especially when driving).  I have also been very good about doing my Bible study and readings.  I am ready to get back to having something to blog about.  I definitely am starting to feel the creative juices flow.  Better start tapping into it.

What a week.

Man, what a week.  Every time I expect a slow week, something happens.

Monday: Elexis was out of school and my husband was off work.  He had gone to the urgent care the day before because he was running a pretty high temp.  He tested negative for both the flu and strep so that was good.  But, the doc sent him home with a  prescription for Tamiflu (just in case) and zpack.  Turns out it was a pretty bad sinus infection, but the z-pack took care of it.  So Monday he was puny all day.  It's okay though because Elexis and I weren't home much of the day.  We started off our day by volunteering at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.  Man what a rewarding experience.  We were put with a group from a local college, UCO.  Our group had about 15 fraternity brothers that were hilarious.  The were so energetic and excited to be helping out.  Our coordinator even said that it was probably the most energetic group she has ever had.  Our whole group probably had about 35 people in it.  Our duties of the day consisted of taking bulk frozen zucchini that came in big boxes and repackaging it into two pound portions.  Elexis and I were scoopers.  There were also weighers and sealers.  I also went around with the broom and dustpan and kept our area neat.  I was over at the frat's tables (they occupied 2 of them) a lot!  They certainly were a messy bunch, but man they were funny!!  We both had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves.  We are already looking forward to doing it again.

After our shift was over, we went home for about an hour to eat lunch.  After that, we went and saw The Nut Job.  It was okay.  Not my favorite animated movie, but it was a good way to pass the afternoon.  Then we just had a low key evening at home.

Tuesday: Hubby was home sick again.  It's a good thing too, because our heater went out.  It is only three years old.  By the time we noticed it went out; it was too late to call anyone so we used our little personal heaters and finally lit our fireplace this winter.  We went to bed that night with our electric blankets set on 8 and didn't get hot once.
My pretty fire

Wednesday:  Hubby home again, but feeling much better.  This time it was to get our heater fixed because the next day the high was 23.  He was able to get the old blower off the heater, located a new one, and put the new one on all in one day.  I was afraid we were going to have to order a new one, but luckily he was able to find one from the place we bought the unit from.  They had to make a special run out to their warehouse to pick it up which we were very thankful for.

Thursday:  Super Cold Day!!  It started out in the teens and didn't get above 20 all day.  And of course that is the day I had errands to run and Elexis had lessons and practice.  I had to go get a string replaced on her cello.  So, while it was super cold and super windy; I am try to wrestle this giant instrument in and out of the car.  After school, we went to her piano and voice lessons.  She also started a new orchestra that night too.  That's right, my kid is now in three full time orchestras (her school, Sinfonia, and now Rockin Strings).  She loves it.  Luckily her lessons and her new orchestra are only about 5 to 10 minutes away from each other or something would have to give.

Friday: Today, I went and visited one of my teacher friends while her students were in activity (PE or Music).  It was a great chance to get caught up with her.  Then after that, I pretty much spent the day playing around with designing a new layout.  This afternoon, Elexis had a cello lesson.  After that, we have spent the rest of the evening relaxing and being low key.

Luckily we don't have any obligations this weekend (which NEVER happens).  I am sure we will find something to do to occupy us.  It is supposed to be in the low 60's.  I need to wash my car (still).  Monday the cold is supposed to return.  I am just happy to have a working heater again.

New Layout

I am so stinkin' proud of myself.  I made my own layout by myself (with a lot of help from tutorials). So far I am loving it.  I went back to My Own Personal Stage only because I was too lazy to switch all of my email and site name over to the other one.  There are still a few items I would like to tweak and mess around with, but I am very proud of myself for doing it.  I am very eager to learn more.  Please tell me what you think of it; all feedback is appreciated.  I did purchase the cute little owls from this Etsy shop.  Right now she is having a buy one get one sale.  I got a few other things for future changes.

The Last Night Meme

From By The Way Sunday, a now defunct meme blog.
Did anyone call you last night?  I had to go back and look at my phone...Yes, to ask my husband if he wanted anything from Braums.  We were there for the final cast party.
How late were you on the computer last night?  Let's just say it was this morning...around the 4ish mark.  Insomnia sucks!
What did you have to eat last night?  Chicken, baked potato, veggies....yum.
Did you watch any good TV shows or movies last night?  I caught up on my DVR some.  I love Mike and Molly
Did any news items stand out to you last night?  I was around a bunch of middle schoolers.  The only news I found out was who likes who and who broke up with who.
Did you go out last night?  Yep, to the final performance of Willy Wonka.
What was the weather like last night?  A little chilly, or a lot chilly if you are me.
What was the last thing you said last night?  It was probably "Ok girls, let's go to bed" to my blue heeler and my cat.  That is their cue to stop sleeping where they are and follow me to bed
What time did you go to bed last night? Again, it was this morning around 4.

Lamborghini Drive

Ok, so I still haven't gotten my menu up yet, even though I have been following it.  It has been an extremely busy week.  It always is during productions of musicals whether I am helping heavily or just a little.  On Thursday, my mom had her gallbladder removed so I was with her most of the day that day.  On Friday I watched my honorary nieces while their mom had to go and have some tests run (she's fine) and then I went with hubby to finally get his Christmas present.

For Christmas I found a groupon for my husband to drive either a Lamborghini or a Ferrari.  He was over the top thrilled.  It has always been on his bucket list.   So Friday was the day.  He LOVED it.  He loved it so much he talked me into driving it as well.  So I did.  I was a little more cautious than he was.  He probably topped out at about 90 to 100 miles while my top speed was 72.  I went from 15 to 72 in about 1.5 to 3 seconds.  It was such a rush.  Had I had a longer straight away, I would have maxed out that sucker on speed.  But, the guide in the car with me scared me a little.  He told me (before I even started driving) that if I didn't break when he told me to on the straight away, that no matter how much I turned the wheel to go into the turn, the car would continue to go straight.  Well straight there was a giant trailer there and I did not want to hit that, so yes, I was a bit cautious in my driving.  It was a fun way to spend the afternoon with my husband though.  He would now like to buy one of those cars and he wants to go back next weekend to drive the Ferrari.  Here are a few pictures of the day.

P.S.  I am loving my hair.  I forget that it's way shorter now and people comment how cute it is.

Hubby taking off.  He is smiling ear to ear.

Him hitting the straight away.

Rounding his first corner.

I was videoing at the same time with my phone.

His new love.

Getting my instructions.

The Ferrari.

Hitting my first turn.

What a fun ride

Look at the smile on his face.  He loved his Christmas present.

Off to see my first of two musicals for the day.  Be ready for pictures from Willy Wonka hopefully tomorrow.

Semi big change for me

Today, I got my hair cut.  To some it's no big deal to change hairstyles often, but to me it's huge.  I got about 10 inches cut off.  At first I wanted to cry because I told the lady I only wanted 5 inches cut.  But, I have accepted it and it's hair...it will grow.  I finally got all the split ends and old color and layers cut off.  My hair feels much healthier now.  It is too short to wear in a bun (which was my hairstyle of choice..lol), but now I will wear my hair down a lot more (because it won't be a tangled mess after 5 minutes).

I also started going back to the gym this week.  I took about 3 weeks off because it wasn't convenient for me to go when Elexis was out of school.  I was pretty proud of myself for running a mile and a quarter on my first cardio day back.  My arms, legs and abs are all really sore from what I put them through, but its a good sore.  I am anxious to run tomorrow with my shorter hair, maybe it finally won't look like I just 80's teased my hair...lol).
You can kind of see how long my hair is here.  I kept it up most of the time because it was so long.

Much shorter.  I suck at taking self pictures.  It looks a lot less stringy though.

I got my car into the estimator today and I take it for a second one, where I am actually getting the work done, later this afternoon.  I am brand new to all this process so it's a little intimidating to me.  My minor fender bender is over $1000 (thank God for insurance).  I'm glad it wasn't anything more than that.  While we have it in the shop we are going to get some hail damage fixed and my windshield replaced (it has been cracked since the first year I had my car).  I am just ready to put it all behind me.  Car repairs suck!

From the orange light just below the corner of the headlight over to the black rim on my car.  There is a small crack and a small dent.  :(

My menu plan last week went awesome.  I only had to tweak a couple of nights, but I still made all I planned except one meal because we had some unexpected plans come up.  So far, it has saved me a ton at the grocery store.  And, it helps that I am now tracking every penny I spend.  I am going to do a separate post on my menu from last week and my new one for this week.

I have been a little MIA this past couple of weeks, because of the school musical.  I made one of the dresses and the girl LOVES it.  Her mom couldn't believe I made it (I told her to not look at it too close...haha!).  I can say that it was the best zipper I ever put in and I am no longer intimidated by them.

We also switched our cable and internet provider.  Man, what a pain the butt.  We finally got everything settled after countless phone calls and three different service men out to the house.  Now I just need to watch the rest of my shows on our old DVR and get everything set up to record on our new DVR then we can cancel the old one.

I have missed all of you and can't wait until I blog regularly again.  So again, I will be posting a crap ton on your blogs.  I would like to find another daily challenge, my life is too boring to blog about everyday without one...

What a week

I have been internalizing a little bit this week.  I have had a ton of stuff to do and lots of changing.

First, I turned 36 on Wednesday.  The day didn't suck, in fact if was a really good day.  Usually my birthday sucks in some way every year.  I think I just basically had no expectations for the day and it was just a great day.  My husband always decorates the living room with balloons and streamers.  I love it.  It makes me feel special.  We ended the day with going and watching the movie Big in the theater.  I love Cinemark's Classic Movie Series.

Second, I was involved in a minor fender bender on Thursday.  Both another girl and I were going into the same lane at the same time.  We hit fenders.  It sucked, but we weren't going fast and no one was hurt except Haley (my car).  I need to find some time this week to get an estimate on my bumper.

On Friday we night we had an impromptu game night with some friends of ours.  We played Phase 10  until 1 in the morning.  We still didn't finish the game.  It was a great evening filled with tons and tons of laughter.

We celebrated my birthday on Saturday with my husband's side of the family.  My mother in law was very very generous and got me the Ninja Mega Kitchen System.  I have wanted this sucker for a while.  I have been too busy to use it yet, but I can't wait to use it.  Now I just need to get a toaster.  Here it is:

The reason for my busyness, I got asked to make one of the costumes for Willy Wonka.  I finally got it finished tonight.  I will definitely take a picture to show it off.

Today, Elexis and I went and watched High School Musical at the place she took musical theatre.  It made me really miss working backstage and working with the kids.  I am definitely helping out on the next musical which is Wizard of Oz (which I am sure Paula is thrilled about...haha).  I helped out backstage today and it brought tears to my eyes.  The kids were all super excited to see me and it felt like old times.

Ok, lastly my husband's cousin found out she has stage 3 anal/colon cancer.  She is 36 years old...my age.  This is what I have been internalizing.  It is so scary to think that this will not go into remission, the odds are not in her favor.  She has three kids and just recently got married.  Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.   She has a very long road ahead of her.

This week is show week for the school musical.  I have high hopes of being able to blog every day, but we will see.  I can't wait to take tons of pictures and show them off.

My menu for the week of Jan. 6

Because my husband gets paid on Tuesdays (which I hate because it is such an odd day), I make my budget and my menu plans reflective of that.  Since I am trying to stick to a budget and get my family to eat healthier, I am going to resurrect my weekly menu.  I have this app on my phone and my iPad that I can easily use to organize my menu (including pulling recipes off the internet into the app) and includes a shopping list.  Plus, I like how Paula posts her weekly menu (which I plan on stealing some of her recipes), so here is mine.

Tuesday:
Smoked sausage, bell pepper, onion stir fry (one of my hubby's favorite meals), with skillet potatoes.  Elexis doesn't like it, so I made her Chicken Alfredo.

Wednesday:
Sesame Chicken with rice.  We will be celebrating my birthday on Saturday, plus I really love eating at home.

Thursday:

Friday:
Leftovers day (possibly one of my favorite days, most foods taste better the second time around).

Saturday:
Celebrating my birthday

Sunday:

Monday:
Teriyaki chicken

I will definitely try to take pictures of the food, but some food just does not photograph well.
I am getting ready to go do my grocery shopping...something I actually enjoy doing.

Sunday Stealing (on Tuesday)

The Generic Meme

From Remember the Stars

1. What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be a teacher or a veterinarian surgeon.  I used to make my brother and cousins be my students.  I didn't just want to be a regular vet, I wanted to perform surgery, that is until my dog chewed her own leg off (true story it happened on Christmas Eve when I was 15).  After that, I wanted to stick with something that wasn't so icky.

2. Would you prefer to have a large group of friends, or a small group of friends? Why? I love a small group of good friends.  I don't feel like I have time for the friends I have, I couldn't imagine trying to keep up with more.  I do like big game nights though.

3. What is your fashion “style”? Or what type of clothes do you wear on a daily basis? I call it mom fashion.  I wear jeans if I am going out (the same pairs I have had for 10 years), a t shirt (usually with a Disney theme or a musical my daughter has been in), if it's cold I will wear a hoodie (I have about 15 from various places we've been), and athletic shoes.  Oh, and Mickey Mouse socks.

4. If you could live anywhere where would you live? I would live in Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disney World.

5. What is your biggest hope for the next year? That I will be able to be a better person.

6. When you pass by reflective surfaces do you check yourself out? It depends, but I pretty much look the same from day to day, so if I do, it will be to see if I sat in something or gotten something on me.

7. Favorite genre of movie as well as TV show? Movies: hands down Disney (who didn't see that coming).  TV show: HGTV or sitcom

8. Top favorite books? (limit of 5) Where the Red Fern Grows, To Kill A Mockingbird, Stephanie Plum series, Hunger Games series, and I am really enjoying the Harry Potters.

9. Have you ever taken a cooking class? Does Home Ec. count?  If not, then no.  I am self taught from an early age.

10. What three words would you use to describe yourself? complicated, high maintenance, friendly

11. Favorite animal? Hippo!

12. What is your dream job? To be Belle at Disney World

13. If you could go back in history to any moment that you did not live, what would it be and why? I would love to be at the signing of the Declaration of Independence or Constitution.  I think it is such a fascinating time in US history.

14. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why? I would want to be invisible so I could really be a "fly on the wall".

15. What is your favorite movie? Beauty and the Beast and the Fast and the Furious series.

16. What is your best childhood memory? Being at my grandma's house.  Also my 9th birthday was pretty awesome.  I had a bunch of girls sleep over and we mattress surfed down the stairs, had a fashion show, watched movies and had the best time.  The next day we went skating.

17. What is your favorite part about blogging? All of the people I have met.  I love reading about their lives and hearing their stories.  I love listening to people's stories because they usually involve something I have never dreamed of being or doing.

18. What is your favorite quote?

This quote is on my checks too.

One of my new favorites.

19. What song do you feel like describes your life the best? Why? Bon Jovi's It's My Life.  I love the lyrics.

20. Would you describe yourself as shy or outgoing? I am very outgoing.  I don't know strangers, just friends I haven't met yet...haha!  I have always been outgoing.

I'm sorry, so sorry...

I promise I did not drop off the face of the earth after New Years.  I have just been busy changing (hehe).  But seriously, I have been trying to get my house decluttered and trying to instill some good habits.  One of the things I am going to start doing is posting goals I would like to accomplish each month.  So, here are my goals for January:

1. Post regularly - starting right now, lets forget the past week, even though I am going to catch up on Stealing Sunday, I like doing those.

2.  Create and stick with a menu plan all month - so far so good this month, lets keep it up.

3. Reconnect spiritually - Downloaded YouVersion on my computer and I am doing a few Bible studies

4.  Get back to the gym - Now that Elexis is back in school, this should be easier

5.  Declutter at least one room - I have already kind of reorganized my kitchen.

6. Take more pictures.  - I haven't picked up my camera for about a week.

7. Get school stuff worked out - start with figuring out what I want to do...haha.

I think that is a good starting point.  I don't want to overwhelm myself.  Hopefully this will keep me in check and I will actually accomplish something.  I plan on writing out my goals I hope to accomplish this year, but I want to finalize them first (which means good ole pen and paper for me...haha).

Ok, now off to do Sunday Stealing.

So it begins...

Yay, my second year of blogging.  I have hit the anniversary date yet, but it's close.

I am choosing to join my friends in the One Word 365 day challenge.  After reading the website and thinking about it and thinking about it and thinking about it; I am, of course, already a day behind.  It's funny, because in real life I am a very punctual person, but here I tend to be late all the time...which leads me to my word...

I am going to work on positive changes this year.  I need to change the way I think, the way I respond, the way I feel, the way I speak...it's going to be a journey because I hate change.  I have noticed I have taken on a very negative way lately and I don't like that about myself.  I am excited to see what I can accomplish.

Ending Dec's challenge

Of course I am a little late again.  So here is the wrap up.

Dec 29 - What do you wish you had known, 10 years ago.

What I wanted to do when I grew up...I still don't.  Hopefully it won't take me another 10 to figure it out.

Dec 30 - What is your favorite way to celebrate New Year's Eve?

I love game nights.  We haven't had one in a while, but they are so much fun.  I am not into the whole going out to a crowded place or not big into drinking.  There are enough crazies out there and I am crazy enough without putting a bunch of alcohol in my system...ha.  This NYE we went over to my oldest and bestest friend's sister's house.  I had so much fun and laughed harder than I have laughed in a long time.  Luckily, she has a daughter that is close to Elexis' age (about 8 months between them) and they have common interests and enjoyed talking the night away.  Hubby sat with the guys and talked guy stuff.
This just says a little bit of the fun we had.  I didn't even take out my cell phone until midnight and we know I am all about the photos.  We have been friends for 25 years.

Here are the girls of the night.  I have known all the adult girls for 25 years.  And I love that our daughters are friends (honorary cousins) as well.

Dec 31 - What are you looking forward to in 2014?

Honestly, just to see how I can grow as a person.  I am constantly wanting to improve something in my life.  I am anxious to see what it will be this year.

Ok, caught up on Dec.  On to the New Year!
